Soft moonshine trickled down the starlit meadow. The slight sound of rushing water sounded from the distance, followed by the scent of blood. The water was scarlet red, tearing away at the land that was closing it in. A white shape loomed over the water, but could not see her own reflection, as if her soul was being swallowed up by the strong hatred and evil that breathed through her soft, glistening fur.
"Nysu," She murmured, tears forming from the corners of her eyes. "You saved me." The wind in the leaves suddenly grew silent. Even the earth itself seemed to lean in and hold it's breath, silently greiving for the young Sunwolf. Only a few days ago had she taken her first steps out from the cave were she was born, her mother and brothers at her pawsteps. She could feel her father's pride as the leader of the pack's chest swelled up proudly as his daughter padded up the slope and down towards the Mirror Lake. There, she saw her future: Darkness. Why don't I see anything? She had thought, still staring into the giant pool of blackness. Suddenly, screams and yelps of pain split the air as her pack got swallowed up in flames. Slowly, fire seemed to grow ten times it's size and in the center glowed two small beady eyes. Her mind had filled with an unhearable twisted laughter as the flames continued down the hill, until it reached her helpless body.
Elva gasped and opened her eyes. She mustn't think about that anymore. She stared at her badly singed body, it's sleek and slender shape almost half-gone. She turned around slowly, seeing the Sun Falls. It was a big waterfall in the distance, the water hissing and spitting. That was where Nysu had died. He had made it this far just to die. Now, she was alone, with death at her pawsteps.
She shook her remaining patches of shining, snow-colored fur and headed towards the waterfall. Tonight, she would stay and guard her friend's body. But only tonight. Hopefully, he would make it to the Path of Light where he could finally rest in peace, but for that to happen, she would need to stay for two days. Elva couldn't risk it, and she could only pray that he would find his way. Slowly, she rested herself by Nysu's body and pressed her nose deep into his cold pelt, letting her tears form the river that would tell the greatest legend of the forest.
